About Brass
With high malleability and exceptionally high tensile strength Brass has a diverse range of engineering applications including use in the manufacture of components, tools and pneumatic products. Brass has extensive uses within the automotive, mining and plumbing and heating industries in applications where low friction is required.
Brass components have replaced many of those previously manufactured in Steel, especially in medical applications where health and hygiene are of primary importance as the Copper in Brass makes it germicidal.
The addition of other elements alters the characteristics of the alloy; for example, adding Aluminium, Iron, Manganese and Silicon make it stronger, whilst controlled amounts of Lead make Brass easier to machine.

Brass and the environment
Some Brass alloys have high corrosion resistance, making them particularly suitable for use in harsh environments including aviation, naval and marine applications.
Brass has an attractive yellow-gold appearance which, combined with its malleability, makes Brass particularly suitable for architectural and decorative applications.
In the UK almost 100% of Brass alloys are recycled making brass an environmentally sound, sustainable choice.
